The internet may seem like the Wild West where everything just happens on a whim, but it’s actually prone to extremely predictable behaviors, and each of those behaviors is tracked on an absolutely massive scale.
Everything you can think of, from the time of day users are most active in various regions, to when things generate referral traffic, is tracked and recorded.
Unsurprisingly, all that data is used by businesses to optimize their marketing strategies and how they engage or groom leads. You’re probably using some of it, too. Are you getting all the information you can to produce the most effective marketing campaigns possible, though?
Here are some of the statistics that Antonie Meeker, CEO of AM Marketing SEO (award-winning SEO company) shared with us.
Online is Key:
In 2022, 3.92-billion people are using at least one of the notable social media platforms. This number accounts for the majority of the population in more developed countries where the bulk of commerce takes place.
64% of people who shopped online in 2018 stated they bought a product specifically because of a video on social media.
Not only are online shoppers using video to guide their purchasing decisions, but they’re also hoping to see more videos from the brands they already enjoy. Fulfill their request.
Customers want Engagement:
81% of customers stated in a 2021 poll that they not only appreciate brands that respond to their comments or messages more, but they expect a response within 6 hours of reaching out.
Mobile is King:
Over half of the internet’s online shoppers said they would not use or refer others to sites that weren’t optimized for mobile browsing.
Facebook in Decline:
Facebook has enjoyed record user counts for years, but now the platform is absorbing major hits in the form of 15-million fewer users and dropping, as well as billions in lost revenue. The younger adults between 18-29 years old are transitioning much of their online time to TikTok and Instagram.
In 2022, 80% of the internet’s traffic consists of video content. Lead marketing specialists predict a 140% increase in sales for companies that embrace online video marketing.
Instagram and Engagement:
Instagram currently has 10x more engagement than Facebook, and it blows Twitter out of the water with 84x engagement. On top of that, imagery including faces sees 30% more engagement across its 1-billion-user platform.
Photos are Key:
Photos are a key part of marketing, and they became even more important in 2022.
On any social media site, posts with photos gain 640x the engagement over text-only posts. People also retain 60% more information from photo-paired posts in contrast to the mere 10% they retain from text-only posts; leading to longer-lasting brand recognition.
Finally, photos allow viewers to absorb information 60,000x faster than they do text; benefitting marketers and leads alike.
LinkedIn has Niche Power
B2B backlinks make up half of LinkedIn’s content, and 40-million of its users are in the top decision-making positions necessary to capitalize on those opportunities. 61-million of its users are senior-level staff members guiding corporate maneuvers.
YouTube is Perfect for Video Advertising:
80% of the globe’s internet-enabled population prefer YouTube to any other video-based platform, and they watch a combined 1-billion hours of video on the platform every day. The only search engine that sees more activity than YouTube is Google.
As a bonus, 70% of those users visit the site via mobile app, and optimizing ads for a mobile environment is key to satisfying the majority of viewers.
SEO is a Must-Have Marketing Strategy:
While 70% of web users use a search engine to find what they’re looking for, only 1% of those users will navigate to page 2 of search results. Instead, only the first 5 results receive 60% of clicks, and the remaining 39% is spread across the first page of results.
This frequent, fast-paced activity also accounts for 70% of all traffic on the internet.
Blogging as a Marketing Strategy:
Blogging can be used for SEO, site enhancement, and product marketing, but it’s more than just an afterthought. 86% of marketers implement it in their marketing strategies to the tune of 3x the leads at 60% of the cost of traditional marketing methods.
Make sure to use pictures, though. Photo-paired blogs gain 90% more views than text-only blogs, and they’re more likely to receive engagement.
These are the reasons 55% of the marketing industry sees blogging as a top priority in any marketing strategy.
Including social proof such as customer testimonials or reviews can increase your conversions by 30%.
These are best placed on landing pages and driven by your most effective marketing channels.
Women Research on Social Media More:
On average, women will research a product on social media 86% more than males in the same age group.
Pinterest and Mobile:
While the mobile market dominates internet usage, Pinterest dominates mobile social media traffic. It directs approximately 64% of all referral traffic on mobile platforms.
YouTube’s massive userbase is 80% outside of the US. Out of its total userbase, more than 60% of users are male, and 70% of those males spend most of their time watching soccer videos or strategy games. The 40% consisting of women mostly watches beauty videos, and both males and females often use YouTube to satisfy their need for nostalgia rather than learning something new.
Finally, twice as many millennials prefer YouTube compared to millennials who watch television, and 37% of 18-37-year-olds binge YouTube videos every day.
